Bayern’s form in a difficult group has been incredibly impressive, with the German champions winning all five of their matches, scoring 16 times in the process and conceding just twice, which has allowed them to breeze into the knockout round of the Champions League as group winners.

Julian Nagelsmann‘s side beat Inter and Barcelona 2-0 in their first two games in the section before back-to-back victories over Viktoria Plzen, scoring nine times in the process.

Bayern then put in a brilliant performance at Camp Nou last week, recording a 3-0 victory courtesy of goals from Sadio ManeEric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Benjamin Pavard, and it was the type of result that would have made their potential challengers in this competition stand up and take notice.

Der FCB have been knocked out in the quarter-finals of this competition in the last two seasons, surprisingly being eliminated by Villarreal last term, but they did lift the trophy in 2020 by beating Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

Nagelsmann’s team will enter this match off the back of a 6-2 win over Mainz in the Bundesliga on Saturday, with the result leaving them top of the table, boasting 25 points from their opening 12 matches.

THERE are plenty of nail-biting, take-it-to-the-wire last day Champions League showdowns this week. Unfortunately, Bayern Munich hosting Inter Milan isn’t one of them.

Both the Bavarian superpowers and the Serie A giants have already safely qualified and Bayern are five points ahead of the Italians, so have the group winner’s place in the bag, while Inter are guaranteed second spot. Both made sure Barcelona failed to qualify from the group stages for the second year in a row.

So it boils down to some nice extra pocket money for winning games in the competition and for Bayern, they will want to put down a marker by maintaining their superb 100 per cent record in the group.

After that sluggish start to the season, Bayern are really motoring recently as they cruise into top gear. A 6-2 home mauling of Mainz at the weekend was their sixth win in a row and they’ve done it with considerable panache having rattled in 25 goals on that run.

However, Inter are on a really good run of their own to, having won four in a row and six out of seven which has also included plenty of goals.

The hosts notched up an eighth win in nine games in all competitions with a 6-2 triumph against Mainz on Saturday. Mane scored one and assisted two against the 05ers while the in-form Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting registered a sixth goal in his last five appearances as the reigning champions briefly hit the top of the Bundesliga standings. The Bavarians’ impressive 3-0 triumph away to Barcelona ensured Julian Nagelsmann’s side passage through to the knockout stages of the Champions League as Group C winners but there is plenty to play for in the section’s final game against an Inter team who are also guaranteed a place in the round of 16.

Bayern won the reverse fixture at the San Siro by 2-0, with Leroy Sane – now back in training following a thigh injury – on target and Danilo D’Ambrosio putting through his own net to ensure maximum points returned to Germany.

Even with rotation expected, the challenge now is for Bayern to become the first-ever team to finish the tournament’s group stage with a 100 per cent record for a third time. The six-time European Cup winners have also failed to beat Inter at home in three previous attempts.

The Nerazzurri are on their own impressive run, with last weekend’s 3-0 triumph at home to Sampdoria – which arrived thanks to goals from Stefan de Vrij, Nicolo Barella and Joaquin Correa – making it four wins on the bounce for Simone Inzaghi’s men, now fifth in Serie A. Indeed, the Italians are now unbeaten in seven, winning six, as they make their way to the Allianz Arena for Tuesday’s prestigious fixture.

Aabsentee when Inter faced Bayern back in September, Lukaku will again miss out after picking up another injury, having just returned to the fold for a visiting side who secured their passage through to the last 16 with a 4-0 win against Viktoria Plzen last week. ”

He’s crucial for us, we missed him a lot,” Inzaghi had said as the Lukaku celebrated his first appearance since August with a goal against the Czechs. Defender Danilo D’Ambrosio is carrying an adductor strain and will be assessed ahead of the Italian side’s trip to Munich. They could also look to rotate given they can’t move from second place in Group C

Bayern will again be missing Bouna SarrLucas HernandezManuel NeuerLeroy Sane and Thomas Muller for Tuesday’s Champions League contest with Inter through injury.

Matthijs de Ligt is also expected to miss out with the issue that he picked up against Mainz in the league on Saturday, which could see Benjamin Pavard feature in the middle of the defence.

Head coach Nagelsmann is expected to resist the temptation to make wholesale changes for this contest, but Marcel Sabitzer and Kingsley Coman could be brought into the side.

Choupo-Moting, meanwhile, is expected to lead the line once again, with the 33-year-old making it seven goals for the season with a late effort against Mainz on Saturday.

Lukaku again appeared off the bench on Saturday, but Belgium international has now suffered another injury, so Dzeko is set to feature alongside Lautaro Martinez in attack.

Head coach Inzaghi could take the opportunity to hand starts to the likes of Kristjan Asllani and Francesco Acerbi, with Alessandro Bastoni and Hakan Calhanoglu potentially being rested.

Bayern Munich possible starting lineup:
