Hatters forward Carlton Morris bagged his eighth goal of the Championship season to put his side ahead against Sunderland on Saturday, but an Elliot Embleton strike in the closing stages meant the hosts had to settle for a share of the points.

Luton remain without defender Reece Burke due to a hamstring injury he sustained in the 2-0 win at Reading at the end of September, a big blow for Jones’s men who have been plagued with injuries to key players so far this season.

Reading will be without midfielder Mamadou Loum when they travel to Kenilworth Road due to the two-time Senegal international picking up his fifth booking of the season in the defeat at Burnley on Saturday.

The Royals were defeated at the last in Saturday’s match at Burnley, and Tom Ince believes the performance put in by the side against the team top of the table deserved at least a point.

The visitors took the lead at Turf Moor through Ince but an injury time goal from Anass Zaroury turned the game in the favour of the hosts, following Manuel Benson’s equaliser, which the midfielder felt was unjust on his team.

“When you come to a place like this, with them top of the table, you can look at the game and say they dominated possession, but the referee has made two vital mistakes which has cost us the game in my opinion,” said Ince.

“He doesn’t give either of the penalty shouts and then they go down the other end and score.

“I thought the lads dug in ever so well, considering this is meant to be the best team in the league.

“You are never going to come here and have the majority of the possession, but we looked a threat on the counter, and I thought second half we were brilliant and put them under pressure.

“We don’t play against this type of opposition every week so if we play like we did today most weeks then we will be ok.”

The deadlock was broken in the 56^th minute by Ince when he latched onto Yakou Meite’s flick-on from Joe Lumley’s kick and finished expertly

That gave the midfielder his fourth goal of the season and after celebrating in front of the travelling supporters he praised the efforts of the fans with 685 making the 450-mile round trip.

“When Yak flicked the ball on, I saw the ‘keeper half coming, and I think he thought it was too late to go back to his line so as soon as he came out I made up my mind.

“I was going to slot it past him and as soon as I did, I didn’t even look towards the goal as I knew it was going in which was great!

“I thought the fans were excellent in their numbers and it was terrific to hear them singing all game, and for them to stay till the end even though they have got a long journey back.

“We aren’t disheartened, and we will go again and try and perform how we did on Saturday on Tuesday.”
