St Mirren have begun to run into a sticky patch of form and have slipped down to eighth in the Scottish Premiership table under Stephen Robinson.

The Buddies are without a win in their last three games and have conceded eight goals in the process, which will need to improve on Saturday as they face a difficult opponent.

Last time out, St Mirren were on the end of a frustrating 2-2 draw at home to St Johnstone, as a goal from Nicky Clark on 96 minutes snatched a point for the visitors in dramatic fashion.

Nevertheless, one positive that can be taken for St Mirren this campaign is their home record, which is the best in the division outside of Celtic and Rangers as they have accumulated 17 points from a possible 24 available on their own patch.

Robinson will hope that they can continue this commendable feat this weekend against Rangers, with the opportunity to move as high as third in the table available should they secure victory.

RANGERS look set to head off into the World Cup break with under-pressure manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst still in charge, but they face a tricky test on Saturday in Paisley.

They play a St Mirren side who have already inflicted Celtic’s only defeat this season in the league with a 2-0 victory in September and are particularly strong at their SMiSA Stadium.

Rangers desperately needed a win over Hearts and they managed it just…with a 1-0 win secured by a second half strike. Their previous outing – a 2-1 defeat against St Johnstone in Perth pushed their Dutch manager to the brink.

He’s been handed a stay of execution just now and will want to send the fans off for their break with at least some kind of optimism with a big performance here.

Their problem is they are riddled with injuries and too often cannot convert possession into goals.

St Mirren boast the best home record outside the Old Firm at home and their only defeat there all season came on the opening day when they went down to an undeserved defeat to Motherwell.

They conceded an injury time goal to St Johnstone in midweek which has left them in eighth place – just two points off third.

How the bookies view it

Rangers aren’t as short as you might expect and can be backed at 4/9 with bet365. St Mirren might see some support at 7/1 with Betfred and the draw is 7/2 with Paddy Power.

Recent head to heads

Rangers easily swept St Mirren aside at ibrox this season in a bloodless 4-0 win and it was the same score when the sides met in Paisley in April.

Saints haven’t defeated Rangers at home in the league for 11 years.

Players to watch

Curtis Main will relish a physical battle against this Rangers defence and the former Aberdeen and Motherwell striker is 9/2 to score anytime with William Hill.

Malik Tillman was the hero for Rangers in midweek with the winner against Hearts and the USA international, who was named in their World Cup squad, is 16/5 with Paddy Power to repeat this.

Mirren will be without defender Richard Tait for the visit of Rangers this weekend due to a groin strain which has kept him out of several matches.

Keanu Baccus and Mark O’Hara are at risk of suspension if they pick up a booking during the match on Saturday.

For the visitors, they are still without a host of senior players for the match at the SMISA Stadium on Saturday. Tom Lawrence and Ianis Hagi will miss out due to knee injuries, while Connor Goldson is sidelined with a long-term hamstring problem.

Ryan Jack will not make the trip to Paisley because of a calf problem, while Ridvan Yilmaz will miss the final game before the World Cup with a hamstring issue.
